VOICE: Formal, regal, precise, authoritative, deep. His tone can convey how cold, realistic, and grim he can be, to hopeful, to sorrowful. In his Lucii form in-game, he will mostly sound like the second example:
⊛ "You call upon the wards of this world's future." He is the first speaker, and the last. Somnus delivers an often-viewed-as-cruel choice in flat terms. This is the reality of their world. Delivering false hope is unwise, so, he cautions the hero that using this power will kill him.
⊛ "Hear me, Chosen King." Somnus addresses Noctis and his brothers, praising their valiance and instructing them to continue towards the dawn.
⊛ "What I did to you was unforgivable." He is the first speaker. The clip shows him at his most emotional and sorrowful when confronted by his brother.

☾ BACKGROUND ORIGINS: Lucis, Eos

OCCUPATION: Founder King, then a "King of Yore"/Spirit of the Ring/Lucii

BLURB: Somnus is the Founder King of Lucis. He betrayed his older brother for the throne, but it didn't matter in the end because the Crystal rejected Ardyn anyway, as Ardyn was corrupted by the Scourge, turning into a monster before the nobles. Somnus then imprisoned the scourge-seeping Ardyn in a cell. Once king, Somnus received his calling: that of the prophecy that identified the sole means to rid the Star of the Scourge... by way of sacrifice, as the gods bid. With no other way to save their world, Somnus saw this ultimately as necessary. With the help of the divine power channeled through the Ring, he rid the Scourge from ravaging the the ancient world and built the foundation the Kingom of Lucis for 2k years to come. Using the Ring taxes one's life; ultimately, it claimed his own, as well as his soul.
⊛ For two thousand years since, his soul has been in the purgatory of the Ring as a Lucii, as is necessary. He serves as the primary spirit among the Lucii, acting as judge to all of those who would seek to claim the Ring for themselves. Occasionally, he is summoned by later kings to help with matters when necessary.
⊛ Somnus has been waiting the end of the prophecy for a very long time. It is the only means to save their Star, as well as free his brother from his curse.

☾ PERSONALITY ATTITUDE: Somnus is man of defined stature and impeccable posture. A grim countenance and a severe stare rarely betray the weight of the guilt and sorrow he carries for the fate of his family-- to do so, perhaps, would be to betray the fate as told by the Draconian, for there is only one way to restore the Light. He holds himself not with confidence or pride, but the impenetrable resolve to herald the future by whatever means, and ignoring (and denying) all but the hope for it that lies within his heart. Somnus carries himself regally and effortlessly, as if being an absolute monarch is the fate which the gods allotted him (and it is)-- or perhaps more accurately, being statuesque is, for all of the kings of Lucis are made to be both tools and sacrifices for the Prophecy, to restore the Light to their Star. With his head lifted and eyes elevated to a Dawn that has yet to come, he walks without needing to explain himself to others. A king moves onward, always.

LIKES: Napping. Falconry. Hunting. Occasionally fishing. Chess.
DISLIKES: He will fight anyone who wishes to destroy the world. He also does not light fighting for the sake of it. Everything he does must be out of necessity and/or in some way contributing to saving his Star.
HOBBIES: Falconry, birds in general, hunting, sweets, napping, and also, he likes gardens, with a preference for sylleblossoms and chrysanthemum (the core emblem he's chosen for Lucis is that of a chrysanthemum-star).

BLURB: In brief: he is a severe, ruthless, and pragmatic man, and he's been dead for a very long time, his soul held within the purgatory of the Ring, to be used as a weapon only when called upon. Plucked outside of the Ring and thrust into some jamjar, Somnus will not act as king or judge, because that is not his purpose (his duty is to his Star alone).
⊛ There is a heart beneath all of that iron, though, and it's one that cares deeply for his family despite the tragic path they've been allotted. However, the world is simply greater than one bloodline or person.
